2017 Inspirations Series - Holiday Cards

Hi friends! So happy to be here today with some fun and easy cards to make for the holidays. These cards feature the Christmas Cling Foam Stamps. Foam stamps are great for cards, Mixed Media projects, you can use paint or ink with them and they cling to your block. These stamps are so easy to use!

When making multiple cards for the holidays using the right tools for the job is essential. The Stamp Platform is a great tool for reproducing multiple cards easily.

Place a piece of Watercolor Cardstock on the Stamp Platform and place the magnets on the edges to hold in place. Position the stamps over the cardstock then close the lid to pick up the stamps.

Apply Distress Oxide Ink to the stamps. You could use one color but I chose a few colors for my ornaments. You can change up the colors and have fun with it!

Stamp the ornaments on to the cardstock. Repeat as desired.

Stamp the JOY and the ornament tops with Distress Embossing Ink, pour on Gold Embossing Powder, shake off excess and heat with a heat tool.

Add a few sprigs of greenery at the top, don't forget to mask off at the center.

Apply Iced Spruce Distress Oxide Ink through the Layering Stencil using an Ink Blending Tool avoiding the ornaments.

Ink the edges of the card, mat and background with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink on an Ink Blending tool.

Apply Alcohol Ink to an Ink Applicator Tool, hold the tool over the ribbon and pull the Metallic Trimmings through the ink to color. Turn the ribbon over if needed to color both sides.

Try different colors as desired. I love how you can still see the metallic in the ribbon, makes it look iridescent.

Add stitching to card, adhere all the layers together and add bow to ornaments.

I hope you will try the new Cling Stamps and the Stamp Platform.
Happy creating!

2017 Inspiration Series: Santa Claus - techniques in coloring!

Hi friends! The first week of the Tim Holtz Holiday 2017 Inspiration Series is underway and has been amazing! You can check out all the projects on Tim's Instagram or catch the recap on the Tim Holtz blog every Saturdays.
Today I'd like to share different coloring techniques for the new Salvaged Santa. Santa Claus is the perfect icon for Christmas and the new Tim Holtz Salvage Santa has that old vintage look from years gone by. The miniature figurine comes in a 2 pack and measures about 2" tall, perfect for assemblage projects, mixed media and more.

Classic Santa - Distress Paint
Use a small brush and paint the Santa with Distress Paint.
Apply Distress Paint to craft sheet.
Pick up paint with brush,
paint one color at a time and dry between each color.

Once the Distress Paint is dry, color Distress Crayons on to craft sheet, add a little water for your Waterbrush and add the color to Santa to enhance the cracks and crevasses of the face, beard, belt, coat, etc.

- Colors -
Distress Paint - Festive Berries, Pine Needles, Black Soot
Distress Crayons - Hickory Smoke

Elegant Santa - Alcohol Ink (Gold)
Apply Gold Metallic Mixative to craft sheet, pick up ink with tiny brush and paint Santa's coat and pants.

Paint boots and belt with Black Soot Distress Paint.

Enhance the crevasse and creases with Distress Crayons. Apply Distress Crayons to craft sheet, add a little water from Waterbrush, and color Santa.

- Colors -
Alcohol Ink - Gold Metallic Mixative
Distress Paint - Black Soot
Distress Crayons - Hickory Smoke, Tarnish Brass

Vintage Santa - Alcohol Ink (Mushroom)
This Santa is inspired by Paula Cheney's project from the Tim Holtz Facebook Live Idea-ology release.

Apply Mushroom Alcohol Ink to a cotton swab and rub over Santa to Color. If you apply to much use Blending Solution to remove ink if needed.

A big thank you to Paula Cheney for sharing her project and photos.

- Colors -
Alcohol Ink - Mushroom
Note - Distress Rock Candy Glitter was added to fur and beard with Distress Collage Medium.

No mater how you color your Salvaged Santa he will add a bit of whimsey to any project for the holidays.  How will you color your Santa?

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Vintage Rose Card - Ranger Guest Artist

Hi friends! I'm so happy to be a guest over on the Ranger Ink blog. My card features Distress Oxide Inks over Opaque Crackle Paste. I love how the Oxide Ink look over the Crackle Paste. Since the inks are a dye/pigment combo the inks have a little opacity to them and they work well over the paste, kraft cardstock or even black cardstock. It's been fun experimenting and I hope you will give it a try.

All the details are over on the Ranger Ink blog.

Thanks for stopping by!

Trick or Treat Card - Sizzix Alterations

Hello friends! Don't you think this is the cutest die cut ever. I love these little Trick or Treaters, they bring me back to years gone by.

To create the background I inked the raised areas of the Rosette Texture Fade and debased the inked area into orange Cardstock.

Die cut the Trick or Treat Thinlits die children from black cardstock. Die cut the Trick or Treat words from green, purple and orange cardstock. Cut background into a square and stitch around the outside with black thread as desired. Cut a mat from Burlap Textured Surfaces.

Use the purple die cut for the base and cut the word or from orange and the word Trick from purple. Adhere the words on to the green base. Adhere to card with foam tape.

Who wouldn't love to get this card in the mail for Halloween!

This card has a different spin on the same Textured Fade and dies. I embossed the Rosette background from Watercolor cardstock and painted a coat of Distress Collage Medium over the top. once dry color the area with Distress Crayons and smudge out with your fingers. once dry take a damp cloth add rub off the area that is raised.

I created a drop shadow by die cutting the Trick or Treat form Orange and black cardstock. Cut the or off the orange and adhere the pieces together and just shift the orange piece up and to the left a little.

Add the children and a few bats using faom tape to create dimension.

I think this die would be so cute on a treat bag or a Mixed Media project.
What will you use it for?

Thanks for stopping in.
